Biography

Born and raised in Glens Falls, Joe Bruno has always been a well respected businessman and entrepreneur, who has dedicated his life to serving his community, State and country in an exemplary manner. He is a graduate of St. Mary’s in Glens Falls, and holds a B.A. in Business Administration from Skidmore College. Joe also served his country as an infantry sergeant in the Korean War.
Joe’s list of business accomplishments includes co-founding the Coradian Corporation in the mid 1970’s. A leading edge telecommunications company, Coradian was the first telecommunications company in the United States to sell a computerized phone system.
Creating economic development opportunities and jobs was always part of the entrepreneurial spirit that drove Joe in private industry, and it carried over into his political career. Elected to the New York State Senate’s 43rd district in 1976, his political career was dominated by his goal to make New York State more competitive with other states. His focus on stimulating economic development, particularly in the area of high-tech, has put New York State on the map. Tech Valley, as the region has become know, is flourishing in part because of the vision and drive that Joe Bruno helped in large measure to provide.
His efforts and support for advancing technology in the region include such notable projects as the Gen*NY*sis program in 2002, which brought significant investment to the area in biotechnology.
More recently, he played a leading role in helping to attract Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) to build a semi-conductor manufacturing facility in Saratoga County, that will employ up to 1,200 new high tech jobs, thousands of construction jobs, and more than 3,000 indirect jobs. The AMD project is one of the largest private sector industrial investments in State history.
Joe Bruno’s vision and caring for our area in both his private and public life is well documented. Whether it’s the long list of community and fraternal organizations he belonged to and supported, or the long list of accomplishments he achieved during his public career, he has served his community, state, and country with distinction.
